Prophet Muhammad, during his life-time ressurected the sense of duty in the minds of men; he destroyed the darkness and made way for the light to spread. He suppressed strife and discord, intolerance and immorality. He established the principle of monotheism - there is only one God and there should be one universal religion.

The religious call 'Allahu-Akbar' was raised high. Prophet's teachings were enthusiastically carried by the followers and Islam, soon spread all over the world.

It presented the principle of monotheism and thus removed the cause of discord and strife from the minds of the people. It provided the right guidance and showed the way to salvation. For erring mankind it was the last True Religion.

But, unification of human race could not be accomplished unless the finality of Prophethood was established, for if Prophets continued to appear after the World-Prophet, they would undoubtedly demand the allegiance of this or that section, and shatter the very foundation of the unity at which Islam aimed by giving a single Prophet to the whole world.

Holy Qur'an therefore speaks of Prophet Muhammad as the last of the Prophets:

"Muhammad is not the father of any of your men, but he  is the messenger of Allah and the 'last of the prophets' (Khatam-al-nabiyyin), and Allah is cognisant of all  things" _ 33:40
