Our holy Prophet Muhammad (s.a.s.) was born in Arabia in the city of Mecca on the 12th day of Rabi-ul-Awwal, which was Monday the 20th day of April, 571 A.C. Muslims all over the world celebrate the Prophet's birthday on 12th Rabi-ul-Awwal and this festival is known as Milad-un-Nabi or Eid-e-Milad.

Unlike other prophets, our holy Prophet lived in lands and times that are regarded as historical. There is no intermixture of mythic element in his life history. He was born in difficult times when the civilized world stood on the verge of chaos. It seemed then that the great civilization, that it had taken 4000 years to construct, was about to disintegrate and mankind was likely to return to that condition of barbarism where law and order were unknown. Civilization, like a gigantic tree whose foliage had over-reached the world, stood tottering, rotten to the core. "It was among these people", writes Denison, "that the man was born who was to unite the whole known world of east and south". This man was the holy Prophet Muhammad. From the very beginning he was unique in his person and behavior. His whole nation testified to his truthfulness and sincerity of purpose. They called him al-Amin, 'the Truthful', 'the Trustworthy'.
