While in Nairobi, Mowlana Hazar Imam and Prince Amyn Muhammad studied under private tutors. Al-Was Kaderali Patel would teach them Arabic, Islamic prayers, nursery rhymes and also Islamic history. At a very young age they learnt the history of Islam and the life of our Holy Prophet Muhammad. When Hazar Imam was only seven years old, he recited the Eid Namaz in Nairobi Jamatkhana.

Once when Mowlana Hazar Imam and Prince Amyn Muhammad visited the Nairobi Jamat, Mowlana Hazar Imam said to Prince Amyn Muhammad: "The Jamat is reciting Salwaat". He then continued and said: "The Jamat is reciting Salwaat because we are the direct descendants of Prophet Muhammad and Murtaza Ali."

When the Second World War was over, Mowlana Hazar Imam and Prince Amyn Muhammad returned to Europe where Mowlana Hazar Imam joined Le Rosey School in Switzerland. He was under the constant care of his grandfather, Imam Sultan Muhammad Shah.It is reported that one day when Mowlana Hazar Imam and Prince Amyn Muhammad were in the veranda, they saw an aged Ismaili getting out of the car. He had come for a holy audience with Imam Sultan Muhammad Shah. Mowlana Hazar Imam said to Prince Amyn Muhammad: "Let us go down and help him to climb the stairs." Prince Amyn Muhammad welcomed this suggestion and they both randown to help the old man. When they offered to give help to the old man, he said that he would climb the stairs on his own. He would not agree to lean on Hazar Imam and Prince Amyn Muhammad, saying. "How can I lean on you both? You are Aal-e-Nabi and Aulad-e-Ali. You are of Noorani family. I shallclimb the steps with the help of my stick." But Mowlana Hazar Imam and Prince Amyn Muhammad insisted on helping him to climb and the old Ismaili had to give in.
